The error messages below may occur during the pairing process. The associated articles provide troubleshooting steps specific to that error and should be used with the troubleshooting steps in this article. If your error is not listed below, continue troubleshooting.

1. Use our Self-Serve WiFi Diagnosis App
You can troubleshoot why your grill isn't connecting to your home network to help with grill setup and disconnections using RouteThis Helps, an app for your iOS or Android phone or tablet.
- Download the RouteThis Helps app for iOS or Android.
- Open the app and tap Begin.
- Enter the code, TRGR.
- Stand next to your grill and tap Network Scan. Keep the app open during the approx. 2 minute scan.

Tap Improve Traeger Performance and follow the provided instructions.
2. Check the Grill
There will only be a few problems with the grill itself that will cause pairing issues. Check the grill to diagnose the main area of problems.

Check if the grill is already paired. Before extensively troubleshooting, let’s check if the grill is connected to WiFi.
- On the grill’s controller, navigate to Menu > Wifi Information.
- If there is a WiFI network name here, the grill is already paired to a network.
- If the grill is connected to the correct WiFi on the controller, but is not connected within the app, go to Grill Appears Offline in App.
- If the grill is connected to the incorrect WiFI network, Forget the Network and begin the pairing process.
- If you do not see a WiFi network name, the grill is not connected to WiFi. Continue troubleshooting.

Check if the grill is in Demo Mode.
- On the grill’s controller, ensure Demo Mode is off.
- Menu > Settings > Demo Mode__**

Check the Firmware.
- On the controller, find the grill’s firmware version navigating to Menu > About Grill.
- Go to Firmware Updates and compare firmware with the latest firmware for the grill type.

If you have a Timberline model, check the antenna.
- Make sure the antenna is screwed in completely under the hopper.
- If the antenna is damaged, replace the antenna.
- Unscrew the controller to confirm the antenna is connected.
- Gently pull on the wire to ensure it has not been disconnected from the controller.
- If the antenna wire has been damaged or disconnected from the controller, contact Customer Service.

Check the Grill’s Location.
- The grill should be within 30 feet (9 meters) from the router during the pairing process.
- Look for obstacles, like masonry, steel building material, concrete, pipes or wires, which could interfere with WiFi signal. If possible, move the grill into a direct unobstructed line to the router.
- If the grill is unable to move into an unobstructed line to the router, continue troubleshooting.
- Attempt to Pair.
- If the pairing attempt fails, perform a WiFi Reset.
3. Check Your Home WiFi Setup
The majority of the time when you're having trouble pairing, there's an issue with how your home WiFi Network is set up. Check out our Home WiFi Set-Up article to make sure you're set up for success.

4. Check Your App Version & Settings
Let's make sure your app is up to date and that your settings are set up correctly.

Check your app version.
- Open the Traeger app.
- Tap Account Name at the top of the screen.
- Scroll to the bottom and find Version.
- Compare app version to the current version on https://www.traeger.com/status
- If the app version is out of date, go into the device app store (Apple App Store, Play Store) to update the app.
- After updating the Traeger App, attempt to pair. If pairing fails, contact Customer Service.
- If the app version is up to date, continue troubleshooting.

Clear the cache data within the app
- iOS: Delete and reinstall the app

Android: Varies on device but customers can either clear the Traeger App cache data or all device cache data.
- Device Setting > App Settings > Traeger App > Storage > Clear Cache Data
- Attempt to Pair
- Check for iCloud Private Relay
If you are an iPhone user with iCloud Plus, iOS 15 introduced a feature called Private Relay for iCloud Plus users. This feature must be turned off while pairing the grill. It can be turned back on after successful pairing.- How to Turn Off or Check for iCloud Plus/Private Relay.
- Go to your iOS device's Settings.
- Search Private Relay. Tap on Private Relay in the search results.
- If you don't see Private Relay, you probably don't have it. Continue troubleshooting.
- Make sure Private Relay is in the Off.
5. If You Still Can't Pair
- Try pairing with a different device.
- Create a Guest Network on your home WiFi network.
- Contact Customer Service.
