This article provides helpful tips to improve your home Wi-Fi connection for your WiFIRE-enabled Traeger Pellet Grill. Important steps include using a 2.4 GHz network, checking the signal strength, and keeping your Wi-Fi name short and free of special characters. It also offers additional troubleshooting advice for those rare times when the connection doesn’t work, such as setting up a guest network and restarting your router.
Is Your Home Wi-Fi Ready for WiFIRE?
These are the requirements:
- 2.4 GHz network — Traeger grills cannot connect to 5 GHz networks. During pairing, your phone must be on the same 2.4 GHz network. If your router uses the same name for both bands (common with mesh networks), consider disabling auto-join on the 5 GHz network temporarily.
- Short network name — Your Wi-Fi name must be 32 characters or fewer and should not contain special characters or excessive spaces.
- Strong signal at the grill's location — Your grill needs a signal between -30 and -70 dBm. If you're unsure, a free Wi-Fi signal meter app can help. A Wi-Fi extender can improve a weak signal.
- Security features disabled during pairing — Temporarily turn off VPNs, firewalls, Apple HomeKit, proxy settings, privacy blocker apps, and 802.1X authentication. These can be re-enabled once your grill is connected.
- Bluetooth off during pairing — Disable Bluetooth on your phone before starting the pairing process. The Traeger App installed on your phone
