Use this checklist to make sure your Traeger WiFIRE-enabled grill connects to WiFi and pairs with the Traeger App smoothly.
Why Use This Checklist?
- Before pairing for the first time: Make sure your grill, WiFi, and phone are ready.
- If pairing fails: Use these steps to see what may have been missed.
1. Check Your Device
Supported OS:
- Android: Version 10 or newer
- iPhone: iOS 16.4 or newer
Older devices may need an update or a newer phone to pair successfully.
How to Check & Update:
- How to check & update your Android version (Google Support Article).
- How to check iOS version (Apple Support Article).
- How to update an Apple device (Apple Support Article).
Known Issues:
- Samsung Galaxy S22 (Android 13): Won’t pair. Update to Android 14 or use another device.
- iCloud Private Relay (iOS 15+): Turn off during pairing if you have iCloud Plus. How to Turn Off Private Relay.
Can't find Private Relay: If the customer cannot find Private Relay, they don't have iCloud Plus. Some users may not know if they have iCloud plus.
- How to Turn Off or Check for iCloud Plus/Private Relay.
- Go to phone/device settings.
- Select Apple ID.
- Tap on iCloud.
- Scroll down until you see Private Relay.
- If the user does not see Private Relay, they do not have it. Continue the pairing process as normal.
- The user should see Private Relay followed by On or Off. If it shows Off, Private Relay has been turned off, and the user can resume pairing as usual.
- To turn off Private Relay, tap the green toggle and confirm the user wants to turn off Private Relay. Once the pairing process is complete, follow the steps above to turn Private Relay back on.
2. Check Phone & App Settings
- Download or update the Traeger App.
- Check app version: Open app → Tap your name → Scroll to bottom.
- Compare version at https://www.traeger.com/status. If the app version is out of date, go into the device app store (Apple App Store, Play Store) to update the app.
- Disable Cellular Data and Auto Join during pairing.
-
D2 Grills: Turn off Bluetooth.
- Bluetooth is required for Touchscreen and Woodridge Series grills to connect.
- Close other apps before pairing.
3. Check Your Home WiFi
| Did You Know? |
|
The Traeger app shows only 2.4 GHz and dual-band networks in the app. If a network isn't listed, it's not compatible and means their router may only be broadcasting a 5GHz network. If the customer has a mesh network, which can broadcast both bands, they may need to change their settings to make their compatible network visible. |
- Walk through the checklist found in Home WiFi Setup.
- Includes password restrictions information and checking Firewalls, VPNs & Additional Security Measures.
-
Check the grill’s proximity to the router.
- Keep grill within 30 ft of router.
- Verify signal stength (-30 to -70 dBm)
4. Confirm Grill Firmware
- Make sure your grill firmware is up to date.
- Some older D2 versions can’t connect. Update Firmware, see Grill on Firmware Version 1.X Unable to Pair.
5. If Grill Was Connected Before
- On grill controller: Menu → WiFi Info.
- If a network name shows, Forget Network.
- Power cycle the grill.
- D2 Grills: Do a WiFi Reset.
- Try pairing again.
