How to connect new Timberline and Ironwood grills to WiFi and pair it with the Traeger app.
Pre-Pairing Checklist
- Station your grill as close to the nearest router as possible.
- Pro Tip: Check out our free Self-Help WiFi diagnostics app to check your connection strength and see if anything on your network may prevent you from connecting successfully!
- Download the latest Traeger app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
- Ensure your smart device is connected to the 2.4 GHz WiFi network to which you want your grill connected.
- Turn on smart device's Bluetooth.
- Open the Traeger app and create an account or log in with your existing account.
- Plug in and turn on your grill.
Pairing with Android Phone
1. Selecting Controller
- Open the Traeger app.
Grill Icon > +Add Grill-
Pairing a second/additional grill:
- Profile icon > +Add Grill.
- Grill icon > Current grill's name > Add Grill.

Select the controller style most similar to the controller on the customer's grill.
- If the controller on the grill is not seen, select " I don't see my controller" this will bring up a list of grills that correspond to each controller.
- Select grill to connect.
- If the controller is not listed, it is most likely that the grill is not WiFIRE enabled.
- If the controller on the grill is not seen, select " I don't see my controller" this will bring up a list of grills that correspond to each controller.
2. Checking Internet Availability
- If the internet is detected, the screen will want to move towards the pairing process. If it is not the screen will display "No Internet Detected".
- If internet is detected move Pairing Phone to Grill.
- If internet is not detected, retry.
- If error repeats itself ensure internet is on and available.
- Exit app and retry.
- Phone WiFi Network = Grill WiFi Network. Make sure your phone is connected to the same network you want the grill to connect to.
3. Pairing Phone to Grill
- Allow Permission for Bluetooth
- Allow Traeger to access the devices' location.
- App will start searching for the grill.
- On the grill's controller, press the Menu button and navigate to WiFIRE Connectivity > Connect Grill. Press, Tap Here to Start Pairing to initiate sending its Bluetooth signal.
- App will search to connect grill.
- Select grill to connect.
- Security code prompt.
- Success! Next connect to WiFi.
4. Connecting to WiFi
- Checking WiFi Connection.
- Press connect button.
- Enter network password.
- App starts connection process
- Grills connection complete. Move to naming grill and completing set-up.
5. Name Grill and Finish Set-Up
- Name your grill
- Create a nickname or select a pre-generated grill name.
- Success! Grill is paired and connected. Start cooking.
Pairing with iPhone
1. Selecting Controller
- Open the Traeger app.
- Tap Add New Grill on the bottom of the app homepage.
- Grill Icon > +Add Grill

- Profile icon > +Add Grill.
- Grill icon > Current grill's name > Add Grill.

Pairing a second/additional grill:
- Select the controller type by tapping on the image that looks like the grill's controller. Agree to Traeger's privacy policy.

2. Pairing Phone to Grill
- On the grill's controller, press the Menu button and navigate to WiFIRE Connectivity > Connect Grill. Press, Tap Here to Start Pairing to initiate sending its Bluetooth signal.
- Confirm the WiFi router has the 2.4GHz network turned on, and tap, NEXT.
- The Traeger app will begin searching for nearby grills. You may be prompted to turn on Bluetooth if you haven't already done so.
- When the app finds the grill, it will appear on your app screen. Tap the grill to confirm the selection and press, NEXT. The app will begin to establish a connection with the grill.
- The app will prompt you to enter a Bluetooth Passkey, which can be found on the grill's controller display. Enter the Passkey and tap, Pair.
3. Connecting to WiFi
- One connection establishes, the customer will be prompted to enter their WiFi password and the app will start checking the WiFi connection. The controller screen will also update to the same screen.

Previously Paired Grills ONLY: Enter Serial Number.
Enter the serial number, which is located under the grill's hopper lid to proceed with pairing. -
- If you cannot locate the serial number, contact customer service.
4. Name Grill and Finish Set-Up
- When connection establishes, you are able to name your grill!
- The app will finalize the home network connection. Success!
No Bluetooth Passkey?
If while pairing the grill or accessories, you are not able to obtain a Bluetooth Passcode, take the following steps:
- Power off the grill
- Unplug the grill from the outlet.
- With the grill unplugged, press power button once.
- Let the power drain for one minute.
- After one minute, press power button again.
- Plug the grill back into the outlet.
- Power on the grill.
- Wait for the display to turn back on; can take 5 minutes.

Q: Can I Connect/Pair While Seasoning?

- A: Absolutely! This process can be done while seasoning your grill. Just remember to let the seasoning process finish once you're done pairing your grill.
Q: Can I Connect/Pair via 5G Network?

- A: No. There must be a 2.4 GHZ network available in order to connect.
