Grill Won't Pair?

If you are having problems pairing your grill, please see the information below

Use this list of checkpoints as a starting ground to diagnose why a grill isn't connecting to WiFi and pairing to the app successfully.

This list may also be used before attempting to pair for the first time to ensure the grill, home WiFi and phone/tablet are set up for success.

  1. Check Device Versions:

    OS Android iPhone
    Supported OS

    Android v. 10 & newer

    • If your device is on an older android version, you will need to update your device's operating system to pair your grill successfully.

    iOS 16 & newer

    • Older iPhones may not be able to support newer operating systems. You will need to use a different smart phone or upgrade your old iPhone to take advantage of Traeger's WiFIRE connectivity features.

    Model & OS-Specific Issues

Samsung Galaxy S22 on Android 13:

    • Pairing will not work on Samsung Galaxy S22 devices with Android 13 OS. This is due to their encryption style on Bluetooth and location services. You must use a different device for pairing. Updating the device to Android 14 will resolve this.

Devices on iOS 15 & newer and/or iCloud Plus: Turn off iCloud Private Relay

    • iOS 15 introduced a feature called, "Private Relay," for iCloud Plus users. This feature must be turned off while pairing the grill. It can be turned back on after successful pairing.
    • Cannot find Private Relay: If you cannot find Private Relay, you don't have iCloud Plus.
    • How to Turn Off or Check for iCloud Plus/Private Relay.
      • Within the phone/device settings, locate the search bar at the top of the main screen. The user will have to scroll to reveal it.
      • Search Private Relay. Tap on Private Relay in the search results.
        • If the user does not see Private Relay, they do not have it. Continue the pairing process as normal.
      • The user should see Private Relay (Beta) followed by On or Off. If it shows Off, Private Relay has been turned off and the user can resume pairing as usual.
      • To turn off Private Relay, tap the green toggle and confirm the user wants to turn off Private Relay. Once the pairing process has been complete, follow the steps above to turn Private Relay back on.
  2. Download the latest version of the Traeger app.
  3. Check the grill's firmware.
  4. Turn on Bluetooth.
  5. Close out any open apps during the pairing process.
  6. Check the Home WiFi Setup.
    1. Walk through the checklist found in Home WiFi Setup.
      • Includes password restrictions information and checking Firewalls, VPNs & Additional Security Measures.
    2. Once the Home WiFi has been set up correctly, continue pairing.
  7. Check if the Grill has been connected to WiFi previously.
(Especially important if lost connection, moved, new WiFi network, second owner, etc.)
When working with a WiFIRE connection you want to make sure that all past information from prior pairing attempts is cleared from the grill and the device being used for pairing. To have a clean slate when attempting to pair take these next steps. Before extensively troubleshooting, let’s check if the grill is connected to WiFi.
    1. Check to see if there is a green light underneath the WiFi button on the controller screen.
    2. If there is a green light, the grill is already paired to a network.
      1. Forget Network
        • This feature essentially logs the grill out of the network it is currently connected to, allowing you to log into a different network than the grill was on previously. To forget the network, press and hold the WiFi button for 3 seconds.
      2. Power Cycle the Grill.
      3. Begin the pairing process.
  8. Check the grill’s proximity to the router.
    • Signal strength should be between -30 and –70dbm (usually within 30 feet of the router).

How to Forget the WiFi Network

To forget the network on your grill follow these steps:

  1. Plug in the grill and power it on.
  2. Tap the Wi-Fi button on the controller to navigate to the WiFi screen.
