How to make sure your Traeger's firmware is up to date with the latest version and what to do if your grill's firmware is out of date.
HOW TO CHECK YOUR FIRMWARE VERSION
Current firmware versions can be found at https://www.traegergrills.com/status.
You can find your grill's firmware version both in the Traeger app and on your grill's controller display.
OPTION 1: FIND THE FIRMWARE VERSION IN THE TRAEGER APP
- Open the Traeger App.
- Click the user/profile icon in the upper-left corner.
- Click the settings gear icon in the upper-right corner.
- Scroll down to ABOUT.
- Find Version.
OPTION 2: FIND THE FIRMWARE VERSION ON THE GRILL'S DISPLAY
To find the firmware version on a Timberline grill, find the ABOUT GRILL menu option.
NEW TIMBERLINE GRILLS
From your Timberline display's Main Menu, find and select the ABOUT GRILL option.
WiFIRE-ENABLED D2 GRILLS
On the grill controller, navigate to Menu > About Grill.
Compare it to the current version found at https://www.traegergrills.com/status.
HOW DOES FIRMWARE UPDATE?
Your grill should update on its own whenever Traeger releases a new update. It will usually do this during startup or shutdown, but you may need to leave the grill on for a few hours or overnight. Just make sure the grill is connected to WiFi.
- If the grill is not connected to WiFi, leaving the grill in standby mode for a few hours/overnight will do nothing.
On occasion, you may find that you may have to do this manually.
REQUIREMENTS TO UPDATE FIRMWARE
In order to update firmware, the grill just needs to be turned on and connected to a 2.4 GHz WiFi network.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO DOWNLOAD NEW FIRMWARE?
Download times may vary, depending on the package size and the WiFi signal strength. If the update is a larger one and the signal strength is low (possibly affected by how far the grill is from the router), the download could take a considerable amount of time.
CAN I USE MY GRILL ON OLD FIRMWARE?
Yes! You can still use a grill with older firmware. Updated Firmware optimizes the grill’s performance.
Some WiFIRE features may be unavailable, but you will still be able to use the grill in every other capacity.
MY FIRMWARE WON'T UPDATE
If your firmware is not updating after you've connected to WiFi, checked the signal strength, and left the grill on standby for a few hours or overnight, please contact Customer Support.
