What is a Downdraft Exhaust
Downdraft exhaust systems, also called backpacks, are located on grills that don't have a chimney. They work by forcing old smoke to exit below where your food is cooked, ensuring you get the best hardwood flavor in every meal. The downdraft exhaust gives you precision control of smoke output, while simultaneously increasing the penetration of smoke into your food, to give a wood-fired flavor.
Cleaning Grills with Downdraft Exhaust
The downdraft exhaust is located on the back of the grill. Inspect the downdraft each time the grill is cleaned for grease/soot buildup. Wipe clean using a cleaning cloth or heavy-duty paper towels to remove buildup. For more information on cleaning, see Cleaning Your Traeger Pellet Grill.
