If your Traeger App does not detect your network, ensure a 2.4 GHz band is enabled, connect your phone to that network, move the grill within 30 feet of the router, reduce obstacles, and check Timberline antenna connections. Mesh networks may require band separation. If problems persist, use RouteThis Helps or contact Traeger Support.

Initial Pairing Troubleshooting – Connecting for the First Time
Why Doesn't my Network Appear When Pairing?
| Reason | What to Do |
|---|---|
| Low signal strength |
The router and grill may be too far apart. Move the grill closer, with the controller facing the router. See "Check Grill Location" below for more tips. |
| The network uses only the 5 GHz band. |
The grill will not connect to a 5 GHz WiFi network band. Consider getting an affordable, dedicated 2.4 GHz router for the grill and other smart home devices. See 2.4GHz vs 5GHz. |
| It's a mesh network (e.g., eero, Orbi, or Xfinity). |
Separate the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz network bands See "WiFi Network May Be Incompatible or Need Separation" below for helpful tips. |
| Timberline Series Grill Antenna Disconnected |
Check that the grill’s Wi‑Fi antenna is securely connected. Reconnect it if loose or disconnected. See "Check for Disconnected WiFi Antenna" below. |
The Grill May Not Be Getting a Strong Signal
The grill may not be able to detect your network if the signal is too weak.
- Keep the grill within 30 ft (10 m) of the router whenever possible.
- Position the controller toward the router.
- Reduce walls, metal objects, and other barriers between the grill and router.
If moving the router isn't possible, a WiFi extender may help improve signal strength.
WiFi Network May Be Incompatible or Need Separation
Traeger WiFIRE grills connect to 2.4 GHz WiFi networks.
If your network doesn't appear:
- Make sure a 2.4 GHz network is available.
- If you use a mesh WiFi system, such as eero®, Orbi®, or Xfinity®, ensure the 2.4 GHz network is enabled. See Connecting a Traeger Grill to an Eero or Mesh WiFi Network
- Connect your phone to the same WiFi network you want the grill to use during pairing.
Pro Tip: The Traeger App only displays networks that the grill can detect. If your network isn't listed, it may be out of range or unavailable to the grill.
Timberline Series: Loose or Disconnected WiFi Antenna
Some models use a WiFi antenna to detect nearby networks.
- Verify the antenna is installed and securely connected.
- If the grill was recently assembled or moved, check that the antenna connection has not come loose.
- For Timberline grills, confirm the antenna is installed beneath the hopper.
Still Can't Connect?
- Download the RouteThis Helps app for iOS or Android.
- Open the app and tap Begin.
- Enter the code, TRGR.
- Stand next to your grill and tap, Network Scan. Keep the app open during the 2-minute scan.
- Tap Improve Traeger Performance and follow the instructions in the app to improve your network connectivity.
