Smoke Coming Out of Barrel - AC Timberline

What's in This Article?

What to do if smoke is coming out from under your AC Timberline grill's barrel.

Applicable Grills

  • Timberline 850 (AC)
  • Timberline 1300 (AC)

Symptoms

A few customers have reported seeing smoke come out from under their grill's barrel. While this isn't normal, it's also not dangerous; it won't impact your cook.

What to Do

  1. Remove all grill grates, grease drip tray, and heat shields.
  2. Remove the black cap from the grease trap.
  3. Add about a cup of water (or flax seed, if desired) to the trap.
  4. Put the black cap back on.
  5. While the grill grates, grease drip tray, and heat shields are out of the grill, prime your auger.

As you use your grill, the water in the grease trap will be replaced by grease from the drip tray. If you continue seeing smoke come out from under the barrel, add more water to the grease trap; this will replace the water that evaporated during your cook.
