What to do if a grill's controller turns off when pressing IGNITE.
Symptoms
The customer presses the IGNITE button and the controller turns off instead of initiating the grill's ignition sequence.
Applicable Grills: All WiFIRE-enabled grills.
Causes
- Old firmware
- Device type not set in Salesforce
- Bad outlet
- Wiring disconnection or damage
- Part failure
What to Do
1. Go through Preliminary Checks.
- Confirm the grill is on the current firmware version and has the correct config version.
2. Check the Outlet.
- If the outlet a GFI/GFCI outlet, make sure it hasn't tripped by pressing the middle button.
- Plug another appliance into the outlet (e.g. toaster, blow dryer, etc. Something pulling at least 300W--a phone charger is not strong enough).
- If there is no power, try another outlet, have the customer see if their circuit breaker tripped, or have the customer consult an electrician for that outlet.
3. Power Cycle the Grill.
- After power cycling the grill set the grill to the desired temperature and press ignite.
- If the controller remains powered on, allow the grill to get to set temperature to ensure the customer is set to start grilling.
- If the controller powers off after pressing ignite move to the following steps to determine what may be causing the grill to shut off.
4a. Touchscreen Grills: Check Power Source/Components.
- Go through steps outlined in Not Getting Power - Touchscreen Grills to confirm that the grill is getting power and finish diagnosing this issue.
4b. WiFIRE/D2 Grills: Check the Power Source/Components.
The troubleshooting within this step will help you verify which power source may be causing the display to not turn on.
-
Check the Power Cord
- Ensure the cord is undamaged and is fully plugged in.
- If using an extension cord, plug the grill directly into the outlet.
- If the grill still does not turn on, continue. If it does turn on, the extension cord is at fault.
-
Check the Power Brick Light: Plug in the grill and see if the power brick light is illuminated.
- To view the power brick, remove the side or bottom panel (depending on the model).

- Connect a component into its spot on the back of the controller.
- Plug in and turn on the grill and attempt to wake the controller.
- If the controller does not turn on, the component is shorting out the controller:
- Replace the part you just connected.
- Turn off and unplug the grill.
- Disconnect the faulty part and repeat with the next connection to make sure no other part is also shorting out the controller.
