AC GRILL POWER ISSUES

What's in This Article?

If your grill isn’t turning on or unexpectedly turns off mid-cook, follow the troubleshooting steps below to get back to grilling or call into Traeger Support for further assistance.

TROUBLESHOOTING STEPS

  1. IS THE GRILL CONNECTED VIA AN EXTENSION CORD?
    1. There may be an issue with the extension cord. Try plugging in the grill directly to the outlet.
    2. If the symptoms continue, proceed to the next step.
  2. INSPECT THE POWER CORD
    1. Look for any signs of damage or kinks.
    2. Access the internal portion of the power cord through the bottom of the hopper. Depending on the grill model, you may need to remove the protective grate by removing the screws securing it in place.
    3. If there is any damage to the power cord, contact Customer Service for a replacement.
  3. INSPECT IF THE GFI OR GFCI OUTLET TRIPPED?
    1. If plugged into a GFI or GFCI outlet (outlet with a small, center button, commonly found in bathrooms or near water), did the outlet trip?
    2. If so, reset the outlet by pressing the center button.
    3. Turn ON the grill and set to SMOKE for 5 minutes.
    4. If the outlet trips again, proceed.
      • NOTE: If the center button does not pop out, the outlet did not trip --> Move to Step 3 below.
    5. See if the outlet is the problem.
      1. Unplug the grill and plug another appliance (toaster, blow dryer, coffee maker) into the outlet and turn it on.
        • The appliance used must pull at least 300 watts for this test to work. Small appliances similar to those listed should work. A phone charger will not suffice.
      2. If the GFI outlet trips again, there is an issue with the outlet or the circuit box. Consult an electrician to resolve the issue.
        1. NOTE: GFI (GFCI) outlet information – Although GFI outlets have a lifespan of 20 years, they often begin to have issues after 5 years.
      3. If the outlet does not trip with another appliance, the grill is tripping the outlet. You will need to contact Customer Support for further troubleshooting to determine which part of the grill is causing the issue.
