Connector Compatibility Notes

V-Shaped Molex Connectors

vshapedTraeger no longer makes or supports the V-shaped Molex connectors found in older grills, which are incompatible with current replacement parts.

If a part with V-shaped connectors needs replacing, customers must upgrade their controller and related components to ensure compatibility.

Older Traeger grills used V-shaped electrical connectors, now obsolete and incompatible with current parts.

If your grill has V-shaped connectors and a part fails, you have two options:

  1. Upgrade to Current Traeger Components: Replace all V-shaped connector parts (controller and wiring) with new compatible components.
  2. Find Matching Parts from Third Parties: Some customers seek matching V-shaped Molex parts from third-party suppliers or the secondary market. Note:
    • The replacement must match the original connector type and specs.
    • Traeger does not guarantee compatibility, safety, or performance with third-party parts.

How to Ensure Proper Component Connection

  1. Turn off and unplug the grill.

  2. Unscrew and carefully pull out the grill controller from the hopper.

  3. Disconnect each connector on the back of the controller. Gently pull on and wiggle each plug to disconnect.

  4. If the connector is not disconnecting, spray a bit of WD40 on the connector and try again.

  5. Reconnect each connector. Follow the chart below to ensure the proper connectors are connected.

  6. If the component continues not to work after reconnection and ensuring all the connectors are connected to the proper spots, check the wire swap test for each component before determining if a replacement is necessary. See below under Wire Swap Test for more information.
