How to Replace an Auger & Auger Bushing
Tools Needed
- #2 Phillips screwdriver
- Flat-head screwdriver
- Needle-nose Pliers
Pro Tips
- Get a second person to help when removing and reinstalling the auger box.
- All screws, unless otherwise noted, are 1/4-20 X 1/2" screws.
- Create a secure space to set aside hardware. As you remove hardware, keep them separated in groupings according to step.
Replacement Steps
- Prepare the grill for servicing.
- Turn off and unplug the grill from the power source.
- Empty all the pellets from the hopper.
- Remove the auger box. (Additional person recommended)
- Unplug the power cord from the auger box.
- While one person supports the auger box, remove the x4 screws from the underside of the grill.
- Caution: The auger box will fall if not supported and could cause damage to the wiring harnesses.
- Woodridge Elite: We recommend removing the back-left screw (inside the cabinet behind the auger box) first as it's the most difficult to see and access.
- Slowly lower the auger box until the hopper wire harness is exposed. Detach the connector and remove the auger box from the grill, setting aside on a work surface.
- Remove the auger and bushing from the auger box.
- Remove the x10 screws found on the sides of the auger box (3 on each long side, 2 on each short side) and remove the service panel. Turn the auger box upside-down.
- Use pliers to remove the cotter pin (looks like a hairpin) from the clevis pin in the auger shaft. Then remove the clevis pin from the shaft.
- Carefully slide the auger motor out of the auger shaft and set aside. Do not disconnect the motor from the motherboard.
- Use a flathead screwdriver to remove the auger lock screw from the auger bushing.
- If replacing the auger bushing only: Slide the auger bushing off the auger assembly.
- If replacing the entire auger: Pull the auger assembly out of the auger tube by grabbing hold at position A and pulling it out.
- Remove the x10 screws found on the sides of the auger box (3 on each long side, 2 on each short side) and remove the service panel. Turn the auger box upside-down.
- Install the new auger and bushing.
- Slide the new auger and bushing into the auger tube.
- If replacing the bushing only: Slide the new bushing onto the auger.
- Install the auger lock screw to attach the bushing to the auger tube.
- Slide the new auger and bushing into the auger tube.
- Reassemble and reinstall the auger box.
- Place the auger motor shaft into the auger. If necessary, turn the auger to align the holes with the auger motor shaft.
- Insert the clevis pin through the holes in the shafts, then insert the cotter pin into the clevis pin to secure it in place.
- Reinstall the service panel to the auger box with the x10 screws you removed earlier.
- With the help of another person, hold the auger box below the grill and reattach the hopper wire harness.
- Lift up the auger box to the bottom of the grill, ensuring the hopper wire harness is tucked into the cavity next to the hopper. Reinstall the auger box to the grill with x4 screws.
- Service complete! Plug in the grill, turn it on and prime the auger.
How to Prime a Woodridge Series Auger
Priming your auger on your Woodridge Series grill is as easy as filling your hopper with pellets and turning on your grill. Woodridge Series grills do not have a "Prime Auger" function like Traeger's other WiFIRE-enabled grills.
- Plug in the grill to an electrical outlet. Turn it on using the switch on the front of the controller.
- Add fresh, dry pellets to the hopper.
- On the grill controller, set the temperature to high (or highest temperature possible), until pellets begin to fall into the firepot. Usually takes about 2-5 minutes.
Manual Auger Priming Function
While the Woodridge Series grill does not have a "Prime Auger" function, there is a way to clear any pellets from the auger tube or fill the auger with pellets after running out of them.
- Make sure the grill is idle and cool.
- Remove grill grates, drip tray, and heat baffle.
- Make sure the firepot is not full of pellets.
- With the grill in idle (display showing ---F), press and hold both ignite/shutdown button and the selection dial.
- The auger will begin to move, and the screen will display the auger moving animation.
- If you are moving fresh pellets to the firepot, continue holding the ignite/shutdown button and the selection dial until pellets begin to fall into the firepot, then release both buttons.
- If you are clearing pellets from the auger tube, continue holding both buttons until all pellets have exited, then release both buttons.
