How to Replace a Lid Sensor & Light

Before removing the hopper service panel: check your grill’s manufacturer date

  • June 2023 (2306) or after: Proceed to remove service panel.
  • Before June 2023 (2305): Remove the access panel using an impact driver to prevent the possibility of stripped screws. If you don't have one on-hand, contact Traeger Support.

  1. Turn off and unplug your grill.
  2. Remove the hopper service panel.
  3. Remove smart combustion cover.
  4. Locate lid and light sensor cables and disconnect from
  5. Cut zip tie holding light / lid sensor cables
  6. Open hopper lid
  7. Remove screw holding ETL grate and remove ETL grate
  8. Remove remaining screws on the display access panel
  9. Remove display access panel with light / lid sensor attached
  10. Remove screws holding light / lid sensor to access panel
  11. Attach new lid / light sensor to access panel and repeat previous steps in the reverse order, adding a new zip tie in place of the one that was cut.
  12. Turn on your grill to see if issue has been resolved.
