Instructions for how to replace the HBA and Hopper Lid on a Westwood and Westwood XL grill.

Hopper Burner Assembly Replacement Instructions

Estimated Time to Complete

  • Approximately 20 minutes to complete.

Removing the Old HBA

  1. Power off and unplug the grill.
  2. Remove the grill grates, drip tray, and heat baffle.
  3. Remove the x6 screws from the hopper service panel on the side of the hopper in the following order:
    1. Remove x2 screws on the back of the panel by the vents first.

    2. Remove x2 screws on the bottom of the panel second.

    3. Remove x2 screws on the side of the panel last.

      Hold the panel with one hand to prevent it from falling when removing the final screws,

  4. Disconnect the RTD (Temp Sensor Probe) at the black Molex connection. These are the black and white wires.

  5. Open the grill lid and remove the grates, drip tray, and heat baffle.
  6. Unscrew the x2 screws on each side of the RTD

  7. Pull the RTD towards the inside of the grill to remove it.

  8. Find the x4 screws located inside the grill on the hopper side and remove them.

  9. Slide the hopper out.

Installing the New HBA

  1. Install the RTD into the grill body and feed the wire through the hole.
  2. Slide the new HBA onto the grill body while also feeding the RTD wire through the hole in the HBA.
  3. Install the HBA onto the grill by replacing the x4 screws.

  4. Connect the RTD to the black Molex connector.

  5. Secure the wires with zip ties in locations shown below.

  6. Replace the hopper service panel using the x6 screws.
    1. Install the x2 screws on the side panel, followed by the x2 screws on the bottom, and lastly the x2 screws on the back of the panel.
    2. Make sure the top part and the back of the panel go inside the hopper enclosure.
  7. Reinsert the heat baffle, drip tray, and grill grates.
Replacing the Hopper Lid
  1. Remove the x2 screws on the back on the hopper lid.

  2. Pull old hopper lid off (the hinges are welded to the lid).
  3. Place new lid on the hopper and replace x2 screws on the back.
