Replacing a Westwood Series Auger

Tools Needed

  • Phillip's screwdriver
  • Needle nose pliers
  • Scissors or wire cutters
  • Zip tie

Replacement Instructions

Estimated Time to Complete

  • Replacing the auger will take approximately 20-25 minutes to complete.

Removing the Old Auger

  1. Clear the pellets out of the auger by manually priming the auger.
    1. Remove the grill grates, drip tray, and heat baffle.
    2. Ensure there are no pellets in the firepot.
    3. Turn the grill on.
    4. Press and hold the ignite/shutdown button for 3 seconds.
    5. Press and hold the ignite/shutdown and "-" buttons together until all the pellets have exited. The animation will stop being displayed.
    6. Remove all pellets from the firepot.
  2. Power off and unplug the grill.
  3. Remove the x6 screws from the hopper service panel on the side of the hopper in the following order:
    1. Remove x2 screws on the back of the panel by the vents first.

    3. Remove x2 screws on the side of the panel last.
      • Hold the panel with one hand to prevent it from falling when removing the last screw.
  4. Cut the zip ties holding the wires together.

  5. Disconnect the ground wire.

  6. Disconnect the orange auger wire connector from the back of the controller.

  7. Remove the auger bushing screw located behind the auger motor.

  8. Wiggle the auger motor back and forth and pull towards you.

  9. Using needle nose pliers, remove the cotter pin and slide the shear pin out to disconnect the auger.

Installing the New Auger

  1. Reattach the new auger to the auger motor by sliding the shear pin through clipping in place with the cotter pin.

  2. Put the auger back in the auger tube and line up the screw holes. Ensure the motor is oriented correctly.
  3. Replace the auger bushing screw.
  4. Plug the orange auger wire back into the back of the controller.
  5. Screw the ground wire back on to the weld stud.
  6. Zip tie the wires back together to ensure they are not in the way of the fans.
  7. Replace the hopper service panel using the x6 screws.
    1. Install the x2 screws on the side panel, followed by the x2 screws on the bottom, and lastly the x2 screws on the back of the panel.
    2. Make sure the top part and the back of the panel go inside the hopper enclosure.
  8. Replace the heat baffle, drip tray, and grill grates.
  9. Plug the grill in.
  10. Fill the auger with pellets.
