How to replace the controller on a Westwood and Westwood XL grill.

Controller Replacement Steps
Estimated Time to Complete
- Approximately 10 minutes to complete.
Removing the Old Controller
- Power off and unplug the grill.
- Remove the x6 screws from the hopper service panel on the side of the hopper in the following order:
- Remove x2 screws on the back of the panel by the vents first.
- Remove x2 screws on the bottom of the panel second.
Remove x2 screws on the side of the panel last.
Hold the panel with one hand to prevent it from falling when the last 2 screws are removed.
- Remove x2 screws on the back of the panel by the vents first.
- Disconnect the RTD (Temp Sensor Probe) at the black Molex connection. These are the black and white wires.
- Remove the x4 thumb nuts on each corner of the controller.
- These should be able to be unscrewed by hand, but if they are too tight, use a 1/2" socket wrench to remove them.

- Remove the green wire from the lower inside weld stud.
- Pull controller out towards the inside of the hopper.
- Unplug the wire connections from the controller (there are 4).
Installing the New Controller
- Plug in the 4 wire harnesses to the new controller.
- Place the controller inside the hopper, lining up the x4 screw holes.
- Slide the ring terminal on the green wire onto the lower inside weld stud.
- Hand screw in the x4 thumb nuts, 1 in each corner of the controller.
- Tighten until snug. Do not over tighten.
- Tighten until snug. Do not over tighten.
- Reconnect the RTD (Temp Sensor Probe) wires. These are the black and white wires.
- Replace the hopper service panel using the x6 screws.
- Install the x2 screws on the side panel, followed by the x2 screws on the bottom, and lastly the x2 screws on the back of the panel.
- Make sure the top part and the back of the panel go inside the hopper enclosure.
- Plug in grill.
