Replacing a Westwood Series Auger Motor

  • x1 Clevis pin
  • x1 hairpin
  • Zip tie
  • x2 Hex k-nut #8-32

Tools Needed

  • Phillip's screwdriver
  • 11/32" wrench
  • Needle nose pliers
  • Scissors/wire cutters

Auger Motor Replacement Steps

Estimated Time to Complete

  • Replacing the auger motor will take approximately 20 minutes to complete.

Removing the Old Auger Motor

  1. Power off and unplug the grill.
  2. Remove the x6 screws from the hopper service panel on the side of the hopper in the following order:
    1. Remove x2 screws on the back of the panel by the vents first.

    2. Remove x2 screws on the bottom of the panel second.

    3. Remove x2 screws on the side of the panel last.

      Hold the panel with one hand to prevent it from falling when the last screws are removed.

  3. Cut the zip tie holding the wires together.

  4. Disconnect the auger motor wire connector from the back of the controller (2 red wires).

  5. Using a 1/2" wrench, disconnect the yellow grounding wire from the inside weld stud.

  6. Using needle nose pliers, remove the cotter pin from the motor. Slide the shear pin out once the cotter pin is removed.

  7. Pull the motor off.

Installing the New Auger Motor

  1. Slide the new auger motor into position.
  2. Replace the shear pin, followed by the cotter pin to hold it in place.
  3. Using pilers, replace the yellow ground wire onto the weld stud.
  4. Plug the auger motor wires into the back of the controller.

  5. Replace the zip tie to hold all the wires together.
  6. Replace the hopper service panel using the x6 screws. 
  7. Plug the grill back in and fill the auger with pellets.
