Step-by-step instructions for how to replace the hotrod and firepot on your Traeger Non-Connected grill. Includes part numbers, required tools, and estimated completion time.

Replacement Steps
The video and instructions below can be adapted to the type of part you're replacing. All sets of instructions go through steps to replace the hot rod, which requires removing and re-installing the firepot.

Hot Rod Only Replacement Steps
- Turn off and unplug the grill. Make sure the grill is cool to the touch.
- If your grill has a guard or panel on the underside of the hopper, unscrew it from the hopper.
- Access the grill's wiring from under the hopper and find the purple and white wires.
- Disconnect the white Molex connector that connects the purple and white wires to the hot rod's two off-white wires. You may need to cut zip ties to do this more easily.
- Open the lid and remove the grill grates, drip tray and heat baffle.
- Vacuum out any residual ash and pellets from the firepot.
- Remove the four wing nut screws that secure the firepot to the auger tube. If your grill doesn't have wing nuts, use a 1/4" wrench or nut driver.
- Push the firepot away from the hopper, rotate it 45° and wiggle it out to expose the hot rod wires.

Loosen the set screw that secures the hot rod in place to the firepot and pull the hot rod out of the firepot.
Pro Tip: Tape the off-white wires Molex connector of the new hot rod to the old hot rod to help guide the new hot rod wiring through the grill as you remove the old hot rod. - From under the hopper, pull the old hot rod's wires to remove the old hot rod. The new hot rod's wires should come with it if you opted to tape them together.
- If you opted not to tape the new hot rod, feed your new hot rod's wires through the grill until they enter the hopper.
- If you opted not to tape the new hot rod, feed your new hot rod's wires through the grill until they enter the hopper.
- Plug the new hot rod into the purple and white wires coming from the controller.
- Insert the new hot rod into the firepot, making sure the end of the hot rod is only exposed about 1/8-1/4" / 4-6 mm.
- Tighten the set screw to secure the hot rod placement in the firepot (do not overtighten).
- Place the firepot back in place and secure it using the four screws you removed in step 7.
- Replace the heat baffle, drip tray and grill grates.
Replacing Hot Rod by Removing the Hopper Shroud
Option provides a bit more visibility when feeding the new hot rod's wires through the grill.
- Turn off and unplug the grill. Make sure the grill is cool to the touch.
- Remove the pellets from the hopper.
- Unscrew the controller and place it in the grill.
- Unscrew the front and back screws connecting the hopper to the grill and carefully remove the hopper.
- Find the purple and white wire bundle and disconnect the white Molex connector that connects the purple and white wires to the hot rod's two off-white wires. You may need to cut a few zip ties to make this easier.
- Remove the grill grates, drip pan, and heat baffle.
- Remove the four wing nut screws that secure the firepot to the auger tube. If your grill doesn't have wing nuts, use a 1/4" wrench or nut driver.
- Push the firepot away from the hopper, rotate it 45° and wiggle it out to expose the hot rod's wires.
- Loosen the set screw that secures the hot rod in place to the firepot and pull the hot rod out of the firepot.
- Remove the old hot rod from the grill, pulling the hot rod wires through the grill.
- Insert the new hot rod into the access point from the side of the grill and feed it through until you see the hot rod in the firepot cavity.
- Insert the new hot rod into the firepot, making sure the end of the hot rod is only exposed about 1/8-1/4"/4-6 mm.
- Tighten hot rod screw (do not overtighten).
- Place the firepot back in place and secure it using the four screws you removed in step 7.
- Plug the new hot rod's wires into the purple and white wire's Molex connector.
If you have extra zip ties on hand, feel free to bundle the wires together again. - Carefully reconnect the hopper to the grill and screw it in place.
- Reattach the controller, careful not to overtighten.
- Replace the heat baffle, drip tray and grill grates.
Firepot Only Replacement Steps
- Turn off and unplug the grill. Make sure the grill is cool to the touch.
- Open the lid and remove the grill grates, drip tray and heat baffle.
- Vacuum out any residual ash and pellets from the firepot.
- Remove the four wing nut screws that secure the firepot to the auger tube. If your grill doesn't have wing nuts, use a 1/4" wrench or nut driver.
- Push the firepot away from the hopper, rotate it 45° and wiggle it out to expose the hot rod wires.
- Loosen the set screw that secures the hot rod in place to the firepot and pull the hot rod out of the firepot.
- Insert the new firepot. Secure the hot rod into the new firepot with the set screw, making sure the end is only exposed about 1/8-1/4" / 4-6 mm.
- Tighten the set screw to secure the hot rod placement in the firepot (do not overtighten).
- Place the firepot back in place and secure it using the four screws you removed in step 7.
- Replace the heat baffle, drip tray and grill grates.
Firepot-Hot Rod Combo Replacement Steps
- Turn off and unplug the grill. Make sure the grill is cool to the touch.
- If your grill has a guard or panel on the underside of the hopper, unscrew it from the hopper.
- Access the grill's wiring from under the hopper and find the purple and white wires.
