Error: Grill Couldn't Get the Time from the Internet

What's in This Article?

How to resolve the error message, Grill couldn’t get the time from the internet in a reasonable time, which may occur when attempting to connect your Traeger WiFIRE-enabled grill to the internet and pair it with the Traeger app.

What causes this error?

The error, "Grill Couldn't Get the Time from the Internet in a Reasonable Time," is an error generated when pairing because of a connection timeout. In other words, the grill has been connected and waiting, or an IP and the time server doesn’t respond.

Typically, this is blocked by the user or an outside source.

How can I resolve this error?

For any error regarding WiFi connectivity, we suggest using our free WiFi diagnostics self-help app to begin troubleshooting. This app will analyze your home network from your grill's location and offer suggestions to improve your WiFi connectivity.

  1. Download the RouteThis Helps app for iOS or Android.
  2. Open the app and tap Begin.
  3. Enter the code, TRGR.
  4. Stand next to your grill and tap, Network Scan. Keep the app open during the 2-minute scan.
  5. Tap Improve Traeger Performance and follow the instructions in the app.

If the RouteThis scan doesn't identify any preventative factors, also try the following:

  1. Power cycle your grill and attempt to re-pair.
  2. Do you have an eero Router? When pairing a Traeger grill with an eero router, this error typically appears because the grill has attempted (and failed) to connect 3 times, which blocks the device from being able to pair anymore. You'll need to contact eero to unblock the device.
  3. Check for firewalls and any other advanced-security settings you may have set.
  4. Create a password-protected guest network and try to pair again.
  5. If you have any questions, please contact Customer Support.
