What is an Ignitor on a Flat Top Grill?
The ignitor is the component of a flat top grill that creates sparks to ignite the propane coming from the grill's burner.
Tools Needed
- Phillips Screwdriver
- Pliers
Estimated Time to Complete
- 10 minutes
Replacement Steps
Before Performing Any Replacement Steps:
- Turn burner knobs to OFF position, close the propane tank, and disconnect the regulator
- Open the lid and remove the cooktop
- Disconnect the burner that the ignitor being replaced is attached to by removing the 2 screws.
- Lift up the burner enough to access the ignitor wire connection.

Remove the wire by sliding it off the back of the ignitor.
Pro Tip: You can use pliers to grip the connector, so you don't have to pull on the wire and risk damaging it. - After the wire is disconnected, remove the burner from the grill.
- Unscrew the screw holding the ignitor to the burner and pull the ignitor away from the burner.
- Replace with the new ignitor and replace the screw.
- Reconnect the ignitor wire to the new ignitor.
- Place the burner back inside the grill and replace the x2 screws to hold it in.
- Replace cooktop and close the lid.
