How to Replace Lid Parts on a Flatrock 2-Zone Griddle

Step-by-step instructions for how to replace the lid, lid handle, and lid hinges on your Traeger Flatrock 2-Zone grill. Includes part numbers, required tools, and estimated completion time.

  • Phillips Screwdriver
  • Second Person to help hold the Lid

Lid Replacement Steps

Before Performing Any Replacement Steps:

  • Turn burner knobs to OFF position, close the propane tank, and disconnect the regulator
  • Open the lid and remove the cooktop
  1. While a second person holds the lid, use a 1/2" sized wrench to remove the 4 nuts and washers (2 on each side) holding the lid to the grill's body.

    Important: There is an inner washer between the hinge bracket and the grill body that can fall when removing the lid.  Make sure to watch for that washer upon removal of the the lid so it does not get lost.

  2. With the 4 nuts removed, push the lid to one side to free the linkages, and then to the other side to fully remove the lid.
  3. Align the new lid to the hinges and reattach the nuts and screw the lid into place. 

    Pro Tip: Make sure that the inner washer between the hinge bracket and grill body is in place before reattaching the hinges to the grill body.
Lid Handle Replacement Steps

Before Performing Any Replacement Steps:

  • Turn burner knobs to OFF position, unplug the grill from power
  • Close the propane tank valve, and disconnect the regulator
  1. Open the griddle lid.
  2. Remove the old handle by unscrewing the 2 Phillip's-head screws holding the handle in place.
  3. Install the new handle, placing the washers between the handle and the lid in this order: Handle > Large Washer > Lid > Small Washer > Screw
    • Insert the flat washers and screws from the interior side of the lid.

Lid Hinges Replacement Steps

Before Performing Any Replacement Steps:

  • Turn burner knobs to OFF position, close the propane tank, and disconnect the regulator
  • Open the lid and remove the cooktop
  1. While a second person holds the lid, use a 1/2" sized wrench to remove the 4 nuts and washers holding the lid to the grill's hinges.

  1. Push the lid to one side to free the lid from the hinges, and then to the other side to fully remove the lid.
  2. With the lid fully removed, remove the other 4 bolts and washers holding the hinges to the grill.
  3. Install the 4 new hinges to the grill lid, 2 on each side by screwing them on with the provided nuts and washers.
    • Follow the video below to ensure the hinges are placed on lid correctly (indented side facing the lid).

      Pro Tip: Ensure that the inner washer between the hinge bracket and the grill lid is in place before reattaching the hinges to the grill lid.

  4. With all 4 linkages attached to the grill lid, align all 4 linkages with the screws on the grill body (you will probably need a second person for this).

    Pro Tip: Ensure that the inner washer between the hinge bracket and the grill body is in place before reattaching the hinges to the grill's body.
  5. Install the lid screwing on the 4 remaining nuts and washers to the grill body.

Lid Hinge Mounting Plate Replacement Steps

Before Performing Any Replacement Steps:

  • Turn burner knobs to OFF position, unplug the grill from power
  • Close the propane tank, and disconnect the regulator
  • Open the lid and remove the cooktop
  1. While having a second person securely hold the lid, use a 1/2" wrench to remove the 4 nuts and washers holding the lid to the hinge linkages. 
  2. Push the lid to one side to free it from the hinges, and then to the other side to fully remove the lid.
  3. Once the lid is removed, unscrew the 4 remaining bolts and washers holding the hinge plates/linkages to the grill body.
  4. Install the new hinge plates by securing the 4 new hinge plates to the grill body using the provided hardware. Ensure the angled or indented side of the hinge faces correctly (usually facing upward).
  5. Reattach the Lid by alligning the 4 hinge linkages with the mounting screws on the grill lid (this again requires a second person). Secure the lid using the 4 nuts and washers you previously removed.
  6. Return the cooktop to the griddle base, reconnect the propane tank, and plug the unit back in.
