How to replace a thermocouple on a Timberline grill.

Replacing a Touchscreen Thermocouple
Timberlines
- Remove all pellets from the grill.
- Remove side service panel.
Before removing the hopper service panel: check your grill’s manufacturer date.
- June 2023 (2306) or after: Proceed to remove service panel.
- Before June 2023 (2305): Remove the access panel using an impact driver to prevent the possibility of stripped screws. If you don't have one on-hand, contact Traeger Support.
- Remove the lid of the grill, by removing the top half of the hinges.
- Locate the Thermocouple wire cover, in between the hoper and the grill lid.
- Remove this by removing one Phillips head screw.
- Remove the Thermocouple window on the back of the grill by removing 2 Phillips head screws.
- Locate the stainless steel clip holding the thermocouple wire in place.
- Remove the thermocouple by loosening the thermocouple bracket clamp screw.
- Inside the hopper locate the bright yellow thermocouple wire and gently pull old thermocouple out now that all fasteners are removed.
- Take new thermocouple wire and feed it into the opening of the back of the hopper.
- Feed the wire though the window on the back of the grill and up into the thermocouple bracket clamp.
- See drawing for specific length.
- Tighten clamp, put window back on, and put wire cover on.
- Connect thermocouple to motherboard following + and - symbols.
- Put smart combustion cover back on motherboard.
- Put hopper service panel back on grill.
- Reinstall lid.
Ironwoods
For Ironwood thermocouple replacement, keep the bracket that is currently on your grill and only change out the thermocouple wire. Discard the bracket that will come with KIT0659.
- Remove pellets from the grill.
- Remove the hopper service panel.

- June 2023 (2306) or after: Proceed to remove service panel.

- Remove the lid of the grill.
- Locate the Thermocouple wire cover, between the hopper and the grill lid.
- Remove this by removing one Phillips head screw.
- Remove the Thermocouple window on the back of the grill by removing 2 Phillips head screws.
- Locate the stainless steel clip holding the thermocouple wire in place.
- Loosen the bolt on the silver bracket enough that the tip of the thermocouple can fit.
- Remove the thermocouple by loosening the thermocouple bracket clamp screw.
- Inside the hopper locate the bright yellow thermocouple wire and gently pull old thermocouple out now that all fasteners are removed.
- Take new thermocouple wire and feed it into the opening of the back of the hopper.
- Feed the wire though the window on the back of the grill and up into the thermocouple bracket clamp.
- Insert the thermocouple through the base of the bracket and then slide the wire under the silver bracket.
- Tighten clamp, put window back on, and put wire cover on.
- Connect thermocouple to motherboard following + and - symbols.
- Put smart combustion cover back on motherboard.
- Put hopper access panel back on grill.
- Reinstall lid.
