Grill Watt & Amp Usage

What's in This Article?

Learn how much power your Traeger grill uses, including voltage, watts, and amps. This quick reference helps you understand outlet compatibility, power usage, and what to expect when setting up your grill.

Traeger grills use electricity to power key components, such as the controller, fan, and auger. Power usage is measured in watts and varies depending on the grill type and features.

What to Expect

  • Grills use more power when starting up and heating.
  • After reaching set temperature, power use drops significantly.

Watts vs. Amps

Grills use watts to measure power, but amps tell you how much current is drawn from your outlet.

Formula:
Amps = Watts ÷ Volts

Most homes use 120V outlets. Some setups (like outdoor kitchens) may use 240V.

Planning Your Setup?

  • Most grills can be used with a standard home outlet.
  • If your grill includes accessories like an induction cooktop or side burner, it may use more power.
  • When in doubt, plan for the maximum amp usage. This helps avoid tripping breakers, especially on 15A or 20A circuits, which are common in homes.

If you're installing a new outlet or building an outdoor kitchen, consider checking with a licensed electrician to ensure your setup safely supports your grill.

FAQs

Can I plug this into a regular outlet?
Yes, in most cases. But high-powered models may need a dedicated circuit.

Will this trip my breaker?
Not likely if you're under 15–20 amps. Always plan for the max draw.

Can I use this with a generator?
Yes—just make sure your generator supports the required wattage or amps.
