Auger Spinning Backward

This article explains what to do if your grill's auger is rotating backward.

A properly functioning auger should turn toward the front of the grill (clockwise). 

Symptoms

  • Auger turns in reverse (pellets move away from firepot)
  • Priming fails or pellets back out of the auger tube

What to Do

Select the corresponding grill type below for your next steps.

Non-WiFIRE Grills
  1. Turn the grill off and disconnect from power.
  2. Check Auger Motor Connection 
    • Remove bottom hopper panel (If applicable. Not all hoppers have a bottom panel)
    • Go underneath the hopper and locate the 4 Molex plastic connectors
    • Disconnect and reconnect the auger motor (red wiring as seen below) Molex connections.

  3. Power Cycle:
    • Reconnect power and turn the grill back on.
  • Prime the Auger:
    • Initiate auger priming and confirm forward rotation toward the firepot.
    • Observe pellets feeding into the firepot.

Expected Result:
Auger rotates forward and pellets feed properly. If successful, the issue is resolved. If issue persists, contact Customer Service.

D2 WiFIRE Grills
  1. Turn the grill off and disconnect from power.
  2. Check Connection to the Controller:
    • Remove Controller from the hopper.
    • Disconnect and firmly reconnect the auger motor connectors at the back of the controller.

  3. Check Connectors to the Motor:
    • At the auger motor, disconnect and reconnect the motor wires/harness.

    • Ensure connectors are fully seated.
  4. Power Cycle:
    • Reconnect power and turn the grill back on.
  5. Prime the Auger:
    • Initiate auger priming and confirm forward rotation toward the firepot.
    • Observe pellets feeding into the firepot.

Expected Result:
Auger rotates forward and pellets feed properly. If successful, the issue is resolved.  If issue persists, contact Customer Service.
