How to Ignite & Shut Down an IronTop Griddle

Step-by-step instructions for how to ignite and shut down your Traeger IronTop grill.

Important: Do not operate the IronTop with the lid closed. The lid must remain open when the grill is in use.
How to Ignite Your IronTop
  1. Fully open the propane tank.

  2. Press the burner knob in and rotate to the ignite position.
    • There will be a "whooshing" sound when the burner lights.
    • If the burner did not light within 5 seconds, turn the burner knob back to the OFF position and wait 5 minutes to allow the gas to dissipate. Repeat until the burner is lit.
  3. Repeat on other burners.
  4. Turn burner knob(s) to desired temperature and let the grill preheat for up to 15 minutes.

How to Manually Light Burners

  1. Access the burner using the matchstick holder, located on the left side of the grill near the grease bucket.

  2. Confirm the burner has successfully lit by looking through the flame openings above the burner knobs under the cook surface.

How to Shut Down Your IronTop
  1. Turn burner knobs to the OFF position.
  2. With the grill still warm, scrape any excess food into the grease and ash keg.
  3. Allow the cooktop to fully cool and close the lid.
  4. Close the propane tank valve.
