ER40: No Bluetooth Probes Found

What's in This Article?

If you're trying to pair your Traeger Wireless Meat Thermometer and see an ER40 error, don’t worry — here’s what’s going on and how to fix it.

Getting an ER40 Error? Here's What It Means and How to Fix It

Common Causes

  • Wrong Menu: You weren’t trying to pair a probe when the error appeared.
  • Probe Not Charged: Probes only work if they’re charged.
  • Incompatible Probe: Westwood Series grills pair only with:
    • Traeger Wireless Meat Thermometers
    • Traeger X MEATER (TXM) Probes
They do NOT pair with MEATER devices or other Bluetooth thermometers.
  • Probe Already Paired: If the controller shows a probe is connected, you don’t need to pair it again.

Quick Fix Checklist

  1. Were you trying to pair a probe?
    • No → Ignore ER40. It was triggered by accident.
  2. Is the probe already paired?
    • Yes → No need to pair again.
  3. Is your probe a Traeger Wireless or TXM?
    • No → Only Traeger Wireless or TXM probes will work.
  4. Did you remove the probe from the dock before pairing?
    • No → Remove it first so it can transmit a signal.
  5. Is the dock LED green when you press the button?
    • No → Charge the probe for at least 1 hour or until LED is green.
  6. Is only one probe out of the dock?
    • No → Remove just one probe to avoid signal confusion.

Try Pairing Again

  • Remove the probe before entering the pairing menu.
  • Remove only one probe at a time.
  • Try pairing 2–3 times without returning the probe to the dock.
  • Power cycle the grill and try again.
