Westwood Series Controller Buttons Unresponsive

What's in This Article?

What to do if the controller buttons on your Westwood series grill are unresponsive

Important: Ensure the protective film has been removed from the controller display prior to use. Failure to remove the film can affect the controller's responsiveness to button presses as well as cause "phantom" button presses.

If you are mid-cook, use the app to adjust temperature or shut down the grill.

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Check for Dirt or Grease
    • Inspect the controller screen.
    • If dirty, clean with warm water and mild soap.
  2. Button Press Technique
    • Ensure the customer is not pressing too hard.
    • Buttons should be pressed gently, like on a smartphone.
  3. Wait and Retry
    • Have the customer wait 60 seconds.
    • Try pressing the buttons again with a lighter touch.
  4. Check Environmental Conditions
    • Ask if the grill is in direct sunlight and if it’s hot outside.
    • If the grill is cooking at max temp and in direct sunlight, this can affect button responsiveness.
  5. Cool Down the Grill
    • If still unresponsive, reduce grill temp to the lowest setting.
    • Move the grill out of direct sunlight.
    • Wait until the grill has reached its lowest temp setting and try again.
  6. Power Cycle the Grill
    • Turn off and unplug the grill
    • Flip the power switch to the on position
    • Wait 30 seconds
    • Flip the power switch to the off position
    • Plug in and turn on the grill.
    • Set grill to the previous temp and complete a shutdown cycle.
