How to Replace a Lid & Lid Parts on an IronTop Griddle

Step-by-step instructions for how to replace the lid and the lid parts on your Traeger IronTop 2- Burner and IronTop 4-Burner flat top grill. Includes part numbers, required tools, and estimated completion time.

Tools Needed

  • Phillips Screwdriver
  • 7/16" Wrench

Lid Replacement Steps

Estimated Time to Complete

  • 10 minutes

Pro Tip: This is better done with 2 people.

Remove Old Lid

Before Performing Any Replacement Steps:

  • Turn burner knobs to OFF position, close the propane tank
  • Ensure the grill is completely cooled
  • Open the lid and remove the cooktop
  1. Remove x2 screws on each lid bracket.

  2. Lift off the lid.

Replace New Lid

  1. Place the new lid onto the grill body in the open position.
  2. Replace the x2 lid bracket screws on each side of the lid.

  3. Replace the cooktop.
  4. Close the lid.

Remove Old Lid Brackets

Pro Tip: This is better done with 2 people. 

Before Performing Any Replacement Steps:

  • Turn burner knobs to OFF position, close the propane tank
  • Ensure the grill is completely cooled
  • Open the lid and remove the cooktop
  1. Remove the lid by removing the nut from the inside of the lid on each side.

  2. Pull out the lid bolt from each side of the lid.

    Pro Tip: Have a second person hold the lid to ensure it does not fall.
  3. Remove the lid.
  4. Unscrew and remove the x2 screws from each lid bracket.

  5. Remove the old brackets.

Replace New Lid Brackets

  1. Place the new lid brackets on the grill body, lining up the screw holes.
  2. Replace the x2 screws on each bracket.

  3. Place the lid on the grill in the open position.
  4. Replace the lid bolt by sliding it through the lid and bracket on each side.

    Pro Tip: Have one person hold the lid to ensure it does not fall.
  5. Replace the nut on the lid bolt on each side of the lid.

  6. Replace the cooktop.
  7. Close the lid.
Lid Handle Replacement Steps

  • 5 minutes

Remove Old Lid Handle

Before Performing Any Replacement Steps:

  • Turn burner knobs to OFF position, close the propane tank
  • Ensure the grill is completely cooled
  • Open the lid
  1. Remove the x1 screw from the grill handle on each side. The screw is located on the inside of the lid.

  2. Remove old handle.

Replace New Lid Handle

  1. With the grill lid open, place the new lid handle on.

  2. Replace the x1 screw on each side of the lid handle.
  3. Close the grill lid.
Lid Bumper Replacement Steps

Estimated Time to Complete

  • 1 minute

  1. Remove the existing lid bumper, located where the grill lid meets the body, by gripping the bumper and pulling upward. 
  2. Install the new bumper by pushing the bumper into the bumper hole. You may need to pull from the pointed end on the backside and twist to get the ring through the hole.
