What Does the Grill Do when this Message Occurs?
The grill will shut down and will not allow users to start a new cook without power cycling first.
The controller and/or Traeger app display one of the following messages:
- Hot Rod Disconnected
- Igniter Disconnected
- Heater is Disconnected
What Causes the Error/Notification?
- The hot rod connection to the controller isn't fully connected or has come loose
- Hot rod needs to be replaced
- Hot rods are considered to be a 'maintenance part,' which may need to be replaced after regular use (similar to how you need to replace an engine filter or a wiper blade on your car).
What to Do
Safety Considerations: Ignitors can be hot enough to cause burns. Users should ensure that ignitors are not hot before handling them.
Resolving a Hot Rod Disconnected Error
- Turn off and unplug your grill.
- Unscrew the 4 screws on each corner of your controller and carefully pull the controller away from your grill to expose the component wiring connections on the back.
- Disconnect and reconnect each of the component connections on the back of the controller, making sure the connections are secure and not loose.
- Plug in and turn on the grill and see if the error still appears.
- Error disappeared: Error resolved!
- Error continues: Replace the hot rod.
- Reattach the controller to the hopper.
