Using a Westwood Series Controller

This article provides an overview of the Westwood controller and its functions.

Important: Ensure the protective film has been removed from the controller display prior to use. Failure to remove the film can affect the controller's responsiveness to button presses as well as cause "phantom" button presses.

Controller Overview

  • WiFIRE digital controller.
  • WiFi capable and Bluetooth enabled.
  • Capacitive touch buttons.
    • You do not need to press hard for the button to register. Just like your phone, you can touch the button, and it will register the press.
  • Display brightness and contrast cannot be adjusted on these controllers.

Getting to Know Your Westwood Controller

1. WiFi
WiFi Button.png

Use this button to connect your grill to WiFi. Press and hold the WiFi button for 5 seconds to disconnect from WiFi. Below is a guide of what the LED lights mean underneath the WiFi icon:

2. Ignite/Shutdown

Use this button to ignite your grill. If your grill is running, press and hold this button to initiate a shutdown cycle.

When the grill is ignited, the LED light under the flame icon will move to the orange flame and will be an orange light. See below:

3. Wired Probe

Use this button when cooking with a wired temperature probe. A red LED light underneath the wired probe icon indicates that the probe is not connected.

4. Wireless Probe

Use this button when cooking with a wireless temperature probe. A red LED light will show underneath the probe icon if the wireless probe failed to connect to the grill:

5. Decrease Temperature / 6. Increase Temperature

Use the +/- buttons to set the temperature on your grill. The + button will increase the temp, while the - button will decrease the temp.

Pressing and holding the - button will cause the controller to switch temp units (Fahrenheit to Celsius or vice versa).

7. Wired Temperature Probe Jack

Use this jack to plug in the wireless temperature probe.

8. Status Display

The status display shows all things related to grill control and function. Some of the elements that can display include:

  • Temp unit- Fahrenheit or Celsius
  • Grill temperature*
  • Probe temperature
  • Error messages

*Westwood grills will display temperature in oven mode. This means once the grill has reached it's set temperature, that will be the temperature displayed on the screen. It will not adjust to temp increases or temp drops unless the customer manually adjusts the set temperature.

  • Actual grill temperature will display while the grill is preheating. Once it reaches temp, the set temperature will remain on the display.

Additional Controller Functions

Changing Temperature Units

This allows the user to change the temperature units from Fahrenheit to Celsius, or from Celsius to Fahrenheit.

  • Temp units can only be changed when the controller is idle, not while setting temp or running a cook cycle.

How to change the temp units

Tap the - button on the controller. A white LED will light up and the current temperature unit will be displayed

 To change the temp unit, press and hold the - button for 5 seconds. The new temperature unit will be displayed
