TIMBERLINE NOT GETTING POWER

What's in This Article?

If your grill isn't getting power, you'll want to try these steps. This article will walk you through how.

  1. Power Cycle
  2. Check if the Power Button is working
  3. Check the outlet
  4. Check if the Power Cord works
  5. Check if the Power Strip works
  6. Check the Motherboard

1. Power Cycle

Let's start off by power cycling your grill. Turn it off, unplug it and wait about 10 seconds. Plug it in again and press the Power Button on. Do your Power Button and your Controller Display turn on?

  • If your Power Button is on but your Display is not, go to Timberline Display not Turning On and keep troubleshooting there.
  • If neither your Power Button nor your Display light up, turn off and unplug your grill, and move to the next step.

2. Check Your Outlet

Let's make sure your outlet is working by plugging in another appliance like a blow dryer or a toaster. If your outlet is a GFI/GFCI outlet (the kind with a button in the middle that is commonly used in areas near possible water exposure), make sure it didn't trip.

If your outlet is working, move to step 3.

3. Check Your Power Cord

  1. Disconnect your grill's Power Cord and the Induction Cooktop Power Cord from the Power Strip on the back of your grill.
  2. Plug the Induction Cooktop into the grill's Power Cord and plug the Power Cord back into the outlet. The Induction Cooktop should turn on, indicated by an orange light around the Dial.

  3. If the Induction Cooktop turns on, the Power Cord is good -- move to the next check. If it does not turn on, your Power Cord likely needs to be replaced. Contact Customer Support and we'll help verify and get you set up with a new cord.

4. Check Your Power Strip

  1. Plug the Power Cord and the Induction Cooktop back into the Power Strip and see if the Induction Cooktop turns on.
  2. If the Induction Cooktop turns on, move on to 5. Check Your Motherboard.
  3. If the Induction Cooktop doesn't turn on, let's check the wiring connections on the back of the Power Strip.
    1. Remove the Hopper Access Panel (the right-side panel of your Hopper).
      • Pro Tip: Removing the P.A.L Rail makes it easier to access the screws behind it.
    2. Find the back side of the Power Strip and make sure the connections are secure by pushing all the connections into the terminals. Does the Induction Cooktop turn on?

      • If the Induction Cooktop does not turn on, the Power Strip likely needs to be replaced. Contact Customer Support and we'll help verify and get you set up with a new strip.
      • If the Induction Cooktop turns on, turn on the grill pressing the Power Button.
        • If the Display and Power Buttons remain off, the Power Strip is good. Move to 5. Check Your Motherboard.
        • If the Induction Cooktop and the Power Button turn on, but the Display remains off, proceed to Timberline Display not Turning On.
        • If all components turn on, you fixed the issue!

5. Check Your Motherboard

  1. Remove the Hopper Access Panel (the right-side panel of your Hopper).
    • Pro Tip: Removing the P.A.L Rail makes it easier to access the screws behind it.
  2. Remove the Smart Combustion Cover.
  3. Turn on the grill by pressing the Power Button. Does the Motherboard's green LED light turn on?

    • ON: Move to the next step to figure out the appropriate resolution.
    • OFF: Make sure the power connections are securely in place by pushing them in or disconnecting and reconnecting them.

      • If the Motherboard LED doesn't turn on you likely need a new AC Wire Harness. Contact Customer Support and we'll help verify and get you set up with a new harness.
      • If the LED turns on, move to the next step to determine the fix.
  4. Check out this matrix to determine the part that is likely causing the issue. Contact Customer Support and we'll verify with you and make sure we set you up with the right part.
