TROUBLESHOOTING AN INDUCTION COOKTOP

This article covers troubleshooting steps for common issues you may experience when using your induction cooktop.

COOKTOP NOT TURNING ON WHEN PLUGGED IN

When the cooktop is plugged in and the grill is turned on, the cooktop does not turn on or show up on the grill's Accessory Menu.

CAUSE: There are likely loose wires connecting the hob to the power source, or the power strip plug is bad.

RESOLUTION: 

  1. Make sure the grill is powered on. The cooktop will only turn on when the grill is also turned on.
  2. Make sure the cooktop power cord is securely plugged in.
  3. If the cooktop still does not turn on, turn off and unplug the grill.
  4. Unscrew the side panel to check the connections are plugged in.
  5. Once the connections are secured, attempt to turn the grill on and see if cooktop responds.
  6. See if the issue is with the cooktop or with the power strip
    1. Unplug the grill from the outlet.
    2. Unplug the cooktop from the grill. 
    3. Disconnect the grill's power cord from the grill. 
    4. Plug the cooktop power cord into the grill's power cord.
    5. Plug in grill's power cord to the outlet.
      • If cooktop powers on, replace the power strip.
      • If the cooktop does not power on, replace the cooktop.

OVERHEATING ERROR

An Overheat error will show up on the grill's display, and the cooktop's dial light ring will flash orange. 

CAUSE: Hot summer days mixed with TURBO heat for a prolonged duration can sometimes cause an overheat error. 

RESOLUTION: Do not unplug the cooktop or turn it off. The cooktop has a built-in safety feature that protects the internal electronics and initiate an overheat error to cool down. Let the Induction Cooktop cool. 

COOKTOP IS ON, BUT NOT HEATING

CAUSE: The cookware may be too small or may not be induction-compatible.

RESOLUTION: Verify the pot/pan is induction-compatible. If a magnet sticks to the bottom of the pan, it will be compatible with an induction cooktop.

COOKTOP STOPS WORKING SUDDENLY

CAUSE: Most likely, the Induction Cooktop cord may be loose or not plugged in.

Another scenario could be if the cooktop was on the Turbo setting for too long. The cooktop has a safety feature that shuts itself down if left on Turbo  for over 15 minutes.

RESOLUTION: Make sure the cord is plugged in.

INDUCTION-COMPATIBLE COOKWARE NOT WORKING

CAUSE: We usually see this with cast-iron cookware with inferior construction. 

RESOLUTION: Try going to 5 and then to turbo. Don't go straight to turbo.

COOKTOP NOT HEATING MY WHOLE PAN

CAUSE: This usually occurs when the pot or pan has a base diameter that is larger than the cooktop coils.

  • Cookware with a larger base diameter can be used; however, only the area of the cookware above the induction coil will heat. The more cookware extends past the coil, the more the overall performance will be reduced.

RESOLUTION: Try an induction-compatible pot or pan with a smaller diameter.

COOKTOP TURNS OFF AFTER 10 SECONDS

CAUSE: A cooktop turning off after 10 seconds means that there is no pot/pan on the Induction Cooktop, or the pot/pan is not induction compatible. The cooktop turns off as a safety feature.

RESOLUTION: Verify the pot/pan is induction-compatible by seeing if a magnet sticks to the bottom of the pan. If the magnet sticks, it is compatible.

COOKTOP LEDs KEEP BLINKING

CAUSE: The Induction Cooktop has not been paired successfully.

RESOLUTION: Unplug and plug in again to restart the pairing process.

FAN TURNS ON WHEN COOKTOP NOT IN USE

CAUSE: The fan will automatically turn on if the cooktop recognizes excessive heat -- possibly heat from direct sunlight or from a high-heat cook on the grill. This will only happen when the grill is still turned on.

RESOLUTION: No action is needed. This is by design.
