This article explains how to resolve the errors, Unable to Connect - Grill Cannot Connect to Network, and, Unable to Join - Grill Cannot Connect to Network, that may occur when connecting your WiFIRE-enabled Traeger grill to WiFi and pairing with the Traeger app
Why am I getting this error?
There are two common causes for this error.
- Incorrect network password
- Trying to pair to a 5GHz network.
How can I resolve this error to complete the pairing process?
For any error regarding WiFi connectivity, we suggest using our free WiFi diagnostics self-help app to begin troubleshooting. This app will analyze your home network from your grill's location and offer suggestions to improve your WiFi connectivity.
Cause 1: WiFi Password
WiFi network password or grill information was entered incorrectly.
Resolution
Verify that your home WiFi network name and password are correct.
Cause 2: Network Frequency
The grill is attempting to connect to a 5GHz home WiFi network rather than a 2.4GHz network.
Resolution
Many modern routers broadcast on both 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands. Verify that your WiFi network that your grill is attempting to connect to is a 2.4GHz network. Two factors may be causing this confusion:
- The network name does not always reflect which frequency is being used.
- Some routers allow 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks to be given the same name. Regardless of the network name, your grill and phone must be on the same network. If your phone is on the 5GHz network and your grill is looking for a 2.4GHz network of the same name, they still won’t pair because they’re not on the same network.
