What to do if your D2 (WiFIRE) grill displays a Low Temp Error on the controller.
- The non-WiFIRE-enabled grill version of this error is a LEr: LOW ERROR READING.
'LOW TEMP ERROR' CAUSE
A Low Temp Error is specific for D2, WiFIRE-enabled grills and will occur when the temperature goes below 120ºF/48ºC for more than 10 minutes. If you get this error, you may notice that the grill will try to reignite. Reignitions happen when the grill temperature has dropped below 90% of the set temperature for longer than 4 minutes. Lower internal grill temperatures can result from poor-quality pellets, auger failure, or ash buildup.
'LOW TEMP ERROR' RESOLUTION
The most common resolution for a Low Temp Error is to restart your grill correctly.
WiFIRE-enabled (or D2) grills require a closed-lid startup, meaning you should preheat your grill with the lid shut. Failure to do so will often result in temperature irregularities throughout your cook. Use the following path to perform the closed-lid startup:
- Turn on Grill
- Ensure the lid is closed
- Set the desired temperature
- Press Ignite

Other than a proper startup, the quality of your pellets is essential. To check your pellets, do the following:
- Check your pellet quality. Pellets should be shiny and snap easily.
- Check if the auger is feeding pellets into the firepot.
- Silly as it may seem, check to make sure the grill isn't out of pellets. Your grill will notify you when pellet levels are low, but it is still quite common for Traeger owners to run out of pellets.

An unmaintained grill will often lead to difficulty getting a grill to the correct temperature. Ash buildup, particularly in the firepot, reduces the hotrod's ability to bring pellets to its smoking point efficiently. You should clean your grill at a minimum of every 20 hours of cooking, but we suggest cleaning it more often than that. Ash buildup will also affect your grill's ability to circulate heat efficiently, which in turn will prevent the grill from being able to maintain the set temperature.
