How to Resolve a Disconnected Auger on a D2 WiFIRE Grill

Applicable Grills
Steps
-
Check your grill's firmware version.
- On your controller, go to Menu > Settings > About Grill.
- Locate your grill's firmware version on the screen.
- Go to https://www.traeger.com/status and find the latest firmware version for your grill.
- If your grill's firmware is on a previous version, make sure your grill is connected to WiFi so it can update to the newest version. See also, Traeger Firmware Not Updating.
- Check if the auger motor is connected to the controller.
- Turn off and unplug your grill.
- Unscrew the controller from the grill and pull it away from the hopper to expose the back.
- Disconnect and reconnect all controller connections to ensure they are all connected securely.
- Remove the hopper service panel from your grill's hopper (this is the side or bottom panel, depending on your model) so you can see inside the hopper.
- Find the auger motor and check if the auger motor wiring harness is connected. Connect if needed. If connected already, disconnect and reconnect the harness to ensure a solid connection.
- Plug in and power on the grill. If all wiring harnesses are connected securely, the error should clear.
- If the Auger Disconnected error still appears, replace the auger motor.

Steps
- Check your grill's firmware to make sure it's on the latest version.
- Ensure the grill is cool and finished with its shutdown cycle.
- Run a SELF-TEST to ensure there are no disconnects. Follow the steps below:
- On the controller display, go to MENU > MAINTENANCE & CARE > SELF-TEST. The test should take about 10 seconds to complete.
- If the auger check fails, proceed to the next step.
- Manually confirm all connectors are fully connected.
- Remove the hopper service panel using a manual impact driver.
- Remove the smart combustion cover.
- Confirm connections on the motherboard are secure.
- Confirm cable connections to the auger motor are secure.
- Confirm wiring is not pinched, cut, or damaged inside the hopper.
- Re-run another SELF-TEST.

Woodridge Series Grill: ER13

Applicable Grills
Steps
- Ensure your grill has the latest firmware. If not, update firmware.
- Once the grill has completed its shutdown cycle and has cooled off completely, power off the grill and unplug it from the outlet.
- Confirm that the auger is not jammed by looking into the auger from the hopper and from the auger tube opening in the firepot.
- Remove the auger box cover.
- NOTE: You only need to remove the cover. The auger box can stay installed on the bottom of the grill.
- Unscrew the x10 screws from the auger box (x2 on each end, x3 along each sides).
- Check the wiring and component connections to the drivetrain circuit board.
-
Find the connection on the circuit board labeled, AUGER, and confirm it's fully seated on the board.
- Ensure that the cable from the drivetrain circuit board is connected to the main controller.
- Confirm wiring is not pinched, cut, or damaged inside auger box.
-
Find the connection on the circuit board labeled, AUGER, and confirm it's fully seated on the board.
- After adjusting the connections, plug the grill back in, power it on, and ignite the grill.
- If the error has cleared, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
- If the issue persists, continue troubleshooting.
- Test for jammed auger motor.
- Locate the auger motor.
- Locate the rotor shaft on the back of the motor.
- Using your fingers, twist the rotor shaft 5 full rotations.
- It should twist smoothly.
- Sometimes there is initial resistance but after a few rotations it will twist more smoothly (this is usually a motor that is jammed and rotating it by hand will clear the jam).
- If the motor is completely locked up and this will not twist:
- Vacuum all pellets out of the hopper and firepot.
- Shake the auger from the firepot side to try to loosen any debris that may be causing the jam.
- Try twisting the rotor shaft again.
- If it still will not twist, using your fingers or some plyers, pull the rotor shaft in the direction away from the motor.
- If the rotor shaft still won't turn, replace the auger box.
- Check the connector on the back of the main controller.
- Locate and remove the 4 screws securing the metal controller trim.
- Locate and remove the 2 screws securing the controller to the controller trim.
- With plyers or an adjustable wrench, loosen the grounding nut and then remove the grounding nut and wire from the metal controller trim by hand.
- Pull the controller out of the controller trim.
- Remove the 4 screws securing the back cover of the controller and gently remove the back cover.
- Be sure not to put too much pressure on the wiring. The cover will still be zip tied to the wiring, but it will fold backward.
- Be sure not to put too much pressure on the wiring. The cover will still be zip tied to the wiring, but it will fold backward.
- Inspect the main connector and push it towards the circuit board if not properly seated.
Good Connection Bad Connection - Reverse steps to reassemble.
- Locate and remove the 4 screws securing the metal controller trim.
- Determine if adjusting the connections cleared the error.
- Plug in, power on, and ignite the grill.
- Check if the grill shows an ER13 error during ignition as the auger starts turning.
- No error: Adjusting the connections resolved the error.
- ER13 appears: Contact Customer Support.
